2006

Removal of tamarisk trees at Mercado District.July 2006
Construction began on the offsite portions of the Mercado District. This includes the main streets bordering the project, Avenida del Convento, and Clearwater. The rest of the old tamarisk trees came down and the new fencing shows the boundaries of the new streets.

June 2006
Mercado District public market planned at Congress and Avenida del Convento, aims to be open by end of the year. View news story.

Installation of street curbs at Mercado District.April 2006
Underground work is complete and Granite Construction is set to begin above-ground construction, including curbs, streets, alleys, and sidewalks. Most builders have submitted home plans for permitting purposes.

2005

Installation of electric utilities at Mercado District.November 2005
Work begins on the storm drain system and installation of electricity, gas, cable, and phone utilities underground. Home design has begun and the first schematics were peer reviewed with the Mercado District Design Review Committee.

Granite Construction water tank at Mercado District.August 2005
Granite Construction began installing the underground sewer system. Next will be the underground water lines for the homes and commercial lots. Design of the first commercial building begins.

May 2005
Mercado District of Menlo Park broke ground this month on infrastructure construction. The native trees have been removed, or salvaged, from the site and placed in a temporary nursery onsite. Granite Construction will first start with grading and compacting. The site is fenced to keep passersby and neighbors safe.
